I have been on a smoothie kick this week! It’s been hot and humid and a smoothie always seems to hit the spot when it’s already 75 degrees at 8am. The other day I was cleaning out my cupboard and came across some Hazelnut coffee beans from Red Rambler, a little coffee shop in my hometown. They roast the beans in-house which makes the place smell amazing. So I ground up the beans and made a batch of coffee that I chilled over night. My intention at first was to make iced coffee. I usually stop at Starbucks for a Friday treat and get a Grande Iced Soy Vanilla Latte. Well that Friday treat, started turning into a Monday/Friday treat and possibly a Wednesday or Thursday thrown in the mix. When I started to see Starbucks every few lines on my bank statement I knew something had to change. I decided to make my own iced coffee. Long story short, I had a brilliant idea to add it to my smoothie Monday morning. It had just enough coffee taste and pick me up to satisfy any coffee craving I was having…..saving $3.85 one step at a time.
Hazelnut Banana Smoothie
Makes 1 serving
Ingredients
- 1 frozen banana
- 1/2 cup Hazelnut flavored coffee
- 1/2 cup vanilla rice/soy/skim milk
- 1 tbsp chocolate powder/protein powder, optional
1. Combine ingredients in blender and mix until smooth. Add in a small amount of agave if you need to sweeten it up a bit.

I think I could substitute nutella for the coffee – what a fast delish smoothie
